<p>Joseph Losey's biography is unusual: while shooting a film in Italy, he was summoned to testify in front of the Anti-American Activities Committee. Like some other filmmakers, he chose to seek refuge in England — and he never returned to America. He made a total of 39 movies — in the USA, England, and France — and a few of them became art-house hits.
