The new Merchant-Ivory Productions adaptation is completely accessible, and it stars such familiar faces as Uma Thurman and Nick Nolte. The convoluted plot has been trimmed to a manageable 135 minutes (a little-seen 1973 BBC adaptation spans 4 hours). Rest assured, you won’t get lost in the story.
